The Federal Trade Commission announced Thursday that it is seeking to expand its new rule prohibiting the AI-assisted impersonation of government officials or business representatives to include impersonating individuals amid a spike in complaints about impersonation scams.
The commission finalized the government and business provisions Thursday before issuing a supplemental notice of proposed rulemaking to extend the prohibition to impersonating individuals.
