The U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday pressed the Department of Veterans Affairs on its narrow view of GI Bill education benefits for multi-tour veterans, with Chief Justice John Roberts Jr. saying the agency’s stance leads to a “raw deal” for some former service members.

The court heard arguments in Rudisill v. McDonough, a complicated case about the educational benefits available to veterans who served more than one tour under two separate GI Bill programs created by Congress.
