The Supreme Court on Monday took up an appeal from three cannabis companies in a case involving the reach of the civil RICO statute aimed at targeting corrupt organizations.

In Medical Marijuana Inc. v. Horn, the justices will consider whether economic losses from a personal injury can form the basis of a civil damages claim under the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act. The court has yet to set oral arguments in the case, but will likely hear the dispute in October or November and render a decision by July 2025.
