Plaintiffs lawyers Thursday asked a federal judge in Washington, D.C., to approve a $125 million settlement in a class action lawsuit that accused the U.S. judiciary of overcharging the public for court documents in its PACER electronic court records system, including $23.8 million in attorney fees.

“Through discovery, we were able to shine a light on how the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts had been using PACER fees, bringing new facts to light and spurring action in the legislature,” said Deepak Gupta of Gupta Wessler, who represented the plaintiffs at a hearing regarding final approval of the deal.
