The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit ruled Thursday that a person’s term of supervised release is not extended if he flees from supervision, deepening a circuit split on the application of the “fugitive tolling doctrine.”

Judges Charles Wilson, Britt Grant and Andrew Brasher said the doctrine applies to prison escapees to ensure they serve their full sentence but not in the context of supervised release where an individual absconds during the monitoring period.
