In a dispute that raised tough Sixth Amendment questions about how a lawyer interacts with a client, a federal appeals court has affirmed the RICO conviction of a Baltimore attorney in an opinion published Tuesday morning. 

“No lawyer has the ‘right’ to accept illegally procured gains ‘in payment of a fee’,” wrote Circuit Judge Harvie Wilkinson in a Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit opinion affirming the conviction of former Murphy, Falcon & Murphy attorney Kenneth Ravenell.
