The U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday handed California employers a victory in their efforts to prevent arbitration of claims under the state’s Private Attorneys General Act, known as PAGA.

The 8-1 majority, led by Justice Samuel Alito Jr., said the Federal Arbitration Act  preempts  a California Supreme Court precedent holding that PAGA claims cannot be split into arbitrable individual claims and non-arbitrable “representative” claims.
