John Pierce, a conservative attorney representing a number of defendants in the Jan. 6 prosecutions, has formally taken over the case of Jacob Chansley, known as the “QAnon Shaman,” days after a federal judge handed down a 41-month prison sentence.

Chansley—known for his body paint, horns and fur—earlier this month was issued one of the longest sentences handed down in U.S. Capitol riots. Ahead of his sentencing, Chansley repeatedly reiterated that he took full responsibility for his actions but urged U.S. District Senior Judge Royce Lamberth of the District of Columbia to not sentence him to further prison time. Lamberth said he could not grant a downward departure from the guidelines, which called for a minimum sentence of 41 months.
