The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday ruled to end the Biden administration’s moratorium on evictions, finding the CDC likely exceeded its statutory authority in issuing the block.

The court made the ruling in a per curiam order, less than a week after landlords challenging the moratorium took the case back before the justices over a new and more narrow version of the order. In Thursday’s unsigned order, from which the court’s three liberal members dissented, the majority said the challengers “are virtually certain to succeed on the merits of their argument that the CDC has exceeded its authority.”
