Stephanie Avakian, the former co-director of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s enforcement division, is returning to Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr to lead a firm practice.

Wilmer revealed Monday that Avakian will chair the firm’s securities and financial services department on her return later this year. Her former co-director at the SEC, Steven Peikin, has already returned to Sullivan & Cromwell. Avakian has been with the SEC since 2014 and was first tapped to lead the SEC’s enforcement division in 2016.
