Uzo Asonye, a career federal prosecutor who played a key role in the special counsel office’s case against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, has joined the Washington, D.C., office of Davis Polk & Wardwell as a partner in the firm’s white-collar defense group.

For Asonye, the move caps a more than decade-long career as a federal prosecutor in Alexandria, where he concluded his tenure as the acting chief of the financial crimes and public corruption unit of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia. Asonye ascended to that role in 2019 after helping former Special Counsel Robert Mueller III’s team secure a conviction against Manafort on financial charges tied to political consulting work that predated the Trump campaign.
