For the second time in three months, Pfizer has avoided a bellwether trial over claims that its smoking cessation drug, Chantix, causes suicidal thoughts.

On Tuesday, five days before trial was scheduled to begin, lawyers representing Pfizer and plaintiff Billy Bedsole Jr. informed U.S. District Judge Inge Johnson of Birmingham, Alabama, that they had reached an amicable resolution. Details of the settlement weren’t disclosed. Bedsole is represented by Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi; Cory, Watson, Crowder & DeGaris; and Hare Wynn Newell & Newton. Pfizer has Williams & Connolly, DLA Piper, and Bradley Arant Boult Cummings.
