Technology has gone from esoteric to familiar, and this commonplace comfort has led many to seek their own solutions for a variety of problems. In the workplace, however, this renaissance approach has at times been more damaging than enlightening, leaving IT departments to scramble to secure company information that some may not even know they are compromising.

Participants reported to Cisco that on average, their organizations are using 91 cloud computing services. Also, the amount of public cloud services has grown by over 65 percent in the past six months, Cisco said.
