On Jan. 16, Gov. Phil Murphy signed Senate Bill 332, the New Jersey Data Privacy Act into law, making New Jersey the 14th state to join the growing patchwork of data privacy statutes across the U.S.

The NJDPA, which is set to go into effect on Jan. 15, 2025, will be applicable to any company that conducts business in New Jersey and either controls or processes the personal data of 100,000 or more New Jersey consumers; or controls or processes the personal data of 25,000 or more New Jersey consumers and derives revenue from, or receives a discount on the price of any good or service from, the sale of personal data, according to the text of the bill.
