Law firms in Asia that take a wait-and-see approach toward the adoption of generative artificial intelligence technology risk falling behind and losing any competitive advantage they may hold, senior technology lawyers say.

While many international law firms have been actively adopting generative AI models, regional and domestic law firms in Asia have been more cautious. Some in Japan and Korea say they don’t use generative AI tools for legal work at all, while others say they are at a very early stage, still considering how best to adopt and implement the tools.
