I saw an article in the American Bar Association’s magazine about law students using their Westlaw accounts to do research for law firms. Is it unethical to accept a work product from a law student if the lawyer did not ask the law student to use his or her student Westlaw account?

The article appeared in the American Bar Association’s publication and referenced a Utah State Ethics Bar Advisory opinion that was dated Nov. 15, 2011. The article said it was unethical for employers to condition hiring law students on providing free research for the employers using their student Westlaw and/or Lexis research accounts.
