DLA Piper has hired an employment head in Hong Kong, several months after former practice head Julia Gorham jumped ship to Seyfarth Shaw.
Helen Colquhoun joins from private client boutique Withers, where she was special counsel based in Hong Kong. Colquhoun advises multinationals in Hong Kong on hiring and terminations, incentive schemes design, contract drafting and compensation packages structuring. She had practiced with Withers since 2004.
Colquhoun’s hire follows the departure earlier this year of former Asia head of employment Julia Gorham to Seyfarth Shaw’s newly launched Hong Kong office. Gorham, a litigation lawyer, left for the Chicago-based firm less than three years after arriving at DLA Piper in a high-profile move from JPMorgan Chase & Co..
Before Gorham, former Asia-Pacific employment head Pattie Walsh and former China head of employment Ying Wang both quit the firm for Bird & Bird. Currently, Beijing partner Johnny Choi heads up China’s employment practice and the firm no longer has a pan-Asia leadership role in the employment practice.
