Beijing-based Zhong Lun Law Firm has launched a New York office with two partners.
Ta-Kuang Chang and Philip Zhang most recently practiced at their own firm in New York, Chang & Zhang Law Group, which they also branded as Ivy Law Group. The two advise American companies investing in China, as well as Chinese companies doing business in the U.S.
Earlier in his career, Chang was a managing attorney in the Beijing office of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison as well as a Hong Kong partner for now-defunct Coudert Brothers. At that time, he advised many of the first multinational corporations to enter the Chinese market.
Before launching a practice with Chang, Zhang worked as a managing director for middle-market investment bank Cromwell, Morgan. He was also previously a New York partner with Buffalo, N.Y.-based Hodgson Russ and has held positions at several other firms including Phillips Nizer, Bingham McCutchen, and Morgan, Lewis & Bockius.
One of China’s leading firms, Zhong Lun has more than 700 lawyers in 10 offices. It launched in London last year and also has offices outside China in Hong Kong and Tokyo.
