Paris-based Gide Loyrette Nouel has hired a new partner for its Shanghai office.

Paul-Emmanuel Benachi is joining Gide from another French law firm, Lefevre Pelletier & associes, where he was head of the Shanghai office. Benachi primarily advises foreign companies on their China investments and acquisitions. He also counsels them on Chinese real estate and labor law issues.

Benachi began his legal career in the Paris office of Jones Day in 1997. He later moved to Latham & Watkins’ Paris office as associate and practiced there for two years. Benachi moved to China in 2004 to become head of the Shanghai office of French firm Thieffry & Associes. He joined Lefevre Pelletier in 2007 as partner and Asia head.

According to its website, Gide’s Shanghai office will have three lawyers including Benachi. Gide also has a five-lawyer office in Beijing and a single-lawyer office in Hong Kong. The firm has 600 lawyers in total, with 20 offices worldwide.
