Lawyers and other legal fee earners in Asia clocked in an average of 24.2 hours per person in pro bono work last year, a 38 percent increase from 2014, according to a recent survey conducted by Thompson Reuters’ TrustLaw.

The London-based global pro bono clearing house also found that 31 percent of Asia-based legal fee earners contributed at least 10 hours in pro bono work in 2015, up 42 percent from last year. Partner engagement also saw minor improvement last year: 39.8 percent of the partners at the 50 firms surveyed in Asia participated in pro bono work; that compares with 34.9 percent in 2014 and 27.3 percent in 2013. Average pro bono hours logged by partners in Asia was 13.4 hours in 2015, up 50 percent from 8.9 hours in 2014.
