A lawyer for Pennsylvania’s attorney disciplinary board urged the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit on Thursday to revive an anti-discrimination rule for lawyers in the state after a federal judge held that the rule violates the First Amendment and is vague.

Lisa Blatt, a partner at Williams & Connolly, defended one aspect of Pennsylvania’s rule in particular: its application to lawyer conduct outside of client representations and court proceedings, such as at continuing legal education conferences.
