Delaware’s Senate on Tuesday passed two bills that would legalize the use and sale of marijuana, potentially bringing the state one step closer to a budding legal niche.

Saul Ewing partner Peter Murphy, who is based in the firm’s Wilmington office, began working in the marijuana legal space in 2016, assisting those interested in getting licenses in Pennsylvania. Despite Delaware’s existing medical marijuana program and its reputation as a business hub, the state currently doesn’t have many attorneys focusing on the legal cannabis industry, but demand could increase if new laws create more business for entities already operating in the marijuana industry in other states, as well as those that are already licensed distributors of medical marijuana in Delaware and might want to expand into the recreational market.
