After what attorneys on both sides described as a tough battle, a Fulton County jury awarded $476,000 to a woman whose car was lightly rear-ended by an SUV, overriding defense claims that a serious injury to her foot could not have been caused by the accident.

Because her lawyers had submitted an offer two years before trial to settle the case for much less, they have also filed a request for more than $150,000 in attorney fees and expenses, said lead plaintiff’s attorney R. Scott Campbell.

Campbell, a Shiver Hamilton partner who tried the case with associate Daniel Beer, said his case was complicated by the fact that the woman only began complaining about her injured foot two weeks after the accident, although she was treated immediately after the mishap for neck, shoulder and back pain.
