Former state lawmaker Stephanie Stuckey Benfield is leaving the environmental law organization GreenLaw to be the city of Atlanta’s next sustainability czar.

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed’s office announced Thursday that Reed appointed Benfield to become director of the Office of Sustainability in mid-May. In that role, Benfield will manage the mayor’s sustainability plan for the city, which includes working with commercial building owners and city departments to reduce water and energy consumption.
