An asbestos lawyer emboldened by a rare $18.8 million talc verdict this year against Johnson & Johnson intends to ask a bankruptcy judge Thursday to allow a trial against Atlanta-based Georgia-Pacific.
Clay Thompson of Maune Raichle Hartley French & Mudd in New York, represents Richard Dale, a retired carpenter from Brick, New Jersey, who was diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2022 after over a decade of exposure to asbestos from joint-compound materials. His lawsuit names a host of defendants, including Kaiser Gypsum and Union Carbide, but Thompson wants Georgia-Pacific to stand trial, despite an injunction in the Chapter 11 case of its subsidiary, Bestwall LLC.
