Among holiday season harbingers like turkey recipes, Christmas trees and pumpkin spice everything is the annual appearance of Salvation Army bell-ringers cheerfully soliciting contributions and offering blessings in return.

But according to a recent lawsuit filed in federal court in Atlanta, some of the souls served by the venerable Christian ministry find themselves working long hours at sometimes arduous jobs in return for paltry remuneration that may be no more than a dollar a day.
