A federal jury has handed up a defense verdict, finding against a Black woman who said she was fired from her job in an Atlanta factory due to gender and racial animus on the part of a white superior who cursed and berated her in front of other workers.

When she complained to the company’s human resources manager, Francine Spivey said she was again subjected to a hail of criticism from the man and—despite having received glowing compliments from the plant manager and other higher-ups—was terminated and replaced by a white man.
