A federal appeals court affirmed a trial court’s dismissal of a lawsuit claiming a teacher suffering from chronic depression was let go after she told colleagues she was considering killing herself and her son, a student at the school, and threatening school officials.

The teacher sued under the Americans with Disabilities Act, but the trial judge and appellate court said the Fayette County School District’s duty to protect its employees and students outweighed the protections afforded individuals suffering mental illness under the ADA.
