“Because of the escalating danger presented by the significant increase in COVID-19 cases late in 2020, however, the December 9 order was modified on December 23 to prohibit jury trials not already in progress. That prohibition is continued in this order,” Chief Justice Harold Melton said.

Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice Harold Melton on Friday again extended for another month the statewide judicial emergency in response to the COVID-19 pandemic that began in March.
Melton continued with his directions from December, prohibiting any new jury trials because of the spike in coronavirus cases around the state, backing off a previous attempt to resume them in order to address the buildup of cases waiting since March.
