To Amend Board Policy 9140, Citizens’ Advisory Committees, and 9125, Notice of District Advisory Committee Meetings, to allow the Board’s citizens’ advisory committee members to make a request to attend their committee meetings virtually or through teleconferencing means, so long as a quorum of committee members is physically present at the meeting. Amendments to Board Policy 9125, Notice of District Advisory Committee Meetings, are proposed to allow similar requests to be made by members of District advisory and other committees established pursuant to Board policy. These policy amendments will facilitate the attendance of committee members who may have an impediment to attending committee meetings in person. Additional amendments to Policy 9125 clarify the title and align the meeting notice timelines to those contained in Board Policy 0164, Notice of Meetings.

To Adopt New Board Policy 9146, Technology Advisory Committee, to establish a committee comprised of one (1) voting member and an alternate appointed by each School Board Member and two (2) voting members and alternates appointed by the Superintendent, for the purpose of providing strategic input and recommendations in the development and implementation of technology and cybersecurity strategies that align with the School Board’s mission and goals. Exofficio non-voting members will consist of the Chief Auditor of the District and two (2) staff members appointed by the Superintendent to serve as liaisons and provide administrative and logistical support to the committee. The committee will be required to meet four (4) times per year and otherwise comply with the requirements of Board Policy 9140, Citizens’ Advisory Committees.

To Adopt New Board Policy 2624, Achievement Gap Oversight Committee, to establish a committee comprised of members appointed by each School Board Member, the Superintendent, the United Teachers of Dade, Diversity Equity and Excellence Advisory Committee, Dade Council of PTA/PTSA, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Urban League, Spanish American League Against Discrimination (SALAD), The Children’s Trust, and related community organizations, for the purpose of making recommendations to the School Board and the Superintendent to address and close the achievement gaps in student performance for individual subgroups on state assessments in ELA, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science, and for graduation and dropout rates. The committee will be required to meet annually and otherwise comply with the requirements of Board Policy 9140, Citizens’ Advisory Committees.

If requested, a Hearing will be held during the June 23, 2021 School Board meeting. Persons requesting such a hearing must submit a written request to the Superintendent of Schools, Room 912, same address as above, by May 18, 2021. The policy will be effective upon filing with The School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida on June 23, 2021. A person wishing to appeal any decision made by The School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida, with respect to any action on this policy should ensure the preparation of a verbatim record of the proceedings, including the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based. Copies of the policy and the notice of intended action are available to the public for inspection and copying at cost in the Citizen Information Center, Room 102, 1450 N.E. Second Avenue, Miami, Florida.
