For a self-described "real homer when it comes to Miami," missing Hurricane Andrew is a lifelong regret. But the worst storm in modern South Florida history struck the day Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Thomas J. Rebull was fulfilling another lifelong dream.
"The first day of the first year of law school, Hurricane Andrew hit in August 1992. And I was there and not here. And I couldn’t even get hold of anybody in my family. Fortunately, nobody was hurt. The house wasn’t destroyed," Rebull said, adding that "it’s always been weird to me that one of the formative events of my community, which I love to death, I wasn’t here for it."
