A referee filed two reports in which she recommended that the Florida Supreme Court enter a 30-day suspension for a father-daughter pair of lawyers. The basis for the referee’s recommendation was her finding that the duo’s overall messages conveyed that “the court system is unfair, biased and does not provide equal justice to everyone.”

Respondents Jerry Girley, 62, the managing partner at the Girley Law Firm in Orlando and a minister, and Brooke Girley, 39, of counsel at the law firm and a professor who teaches civil rights at the Delaware Law School, argued that any disciplinary action would set a bad precedent by chilling free speech for lawyers in Florida.
