Jessica Marra was riding shotgun while her husband drove their family on vacation celebrating her mother’s birthday, when she received “the call” informing her that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis had appointed her to the Broward Circuit Court.

“It was a quick transition from shock, to grateful, to silencing my daughter’s tablet, to even talk to them,” Marra said. “My mom was shaking my shoulder from the back seat in excitement, and my husband just kissed me and said, ‘Congratulations.’ It was cool to have my husband, my mom and my daughter with me at that moment, as opposed to finding out about it myself.”
