A coalition of pro bono counsel and public interest law firms sued four Florida school boards on Monday to block implementation of Florida HB 1557, also referred to as the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill. The suit pursues claims on behalf of three families, their minor children and LGBTQ+ organization CenterLink Inc. The suit, backed by Baker McKenzie; Southern Poverty Law Center; Southern Legal Counsel Inc. and Lambda Legal, seeks a court order enjoining enforcement of the law on the grounds that it deprives plaintiffs of their First Amendment and Due process rights. The case is 6:22-cv-01312, Cousins et al v. School Board of Orange County et al.
