As a longtime CEO and professional working in all types of environments from newsrooms to boardrooms, serving on nonprofit and city boards and working with major corporate clients for over 20 years, I can say firsthand that women are doing themselves a disservice with books on “Girl Power” and phrases like “badass boss lady.” Although there’s no question some women—and some men—need occasional support, we cannot lose sight the way to the promised land is not what many would imagine.
