Eight-attorney law firm Gelber Schachter & Greenberg has hired Holland & Knight partner Brian Toth.
Toth specializes in commercial litigation, with an emphasis on business disputes, copyright and trademark infringement actions, consumer claims and class actions. He regularly defends journalists and media companies facing defamation claims.
“We always say we want to grow with quality. I’m proud of the growth of our firm,” said Dan Gelber, co-founder of the litigation boutique and mayor of Miami Beach.
The firm specializes in complex civil litigation and white-collar criminal defense.
“Gelber Schachter & Greenberg is the perfect fit for the work I like to do. These are extraordinary lawyers who provide a personalized and focused approach to the law, and the firm will provide an excellent platform for growing my practice,” Toth said in a statement.
Holland & Knight’s South Florida litigation group head, Aldolfo Jimenez, said in a statement that Toth is an excellent lawyer and was a valuable member of its team for many years. ”We wish him much success,” he said.
Gelber, a former Florida state senator and Democratic candidate for Florida Attorney General, founded the firm in 2012 along with Adam Schachter and Gerald Greenberg, formerly of Stearns Weaver Miller Weissler Alhadeff & Sitterson. Gelber is an alumnus of Akerman and spent a decade as a Miami federal prosecutor.
Gelber was first elected mayor in 2017, and last month announced his intention to run for re-election. Gelber considers himself a “part-time mayor and full-time attorney.”
