In a case of first impression, a Connecticut superior court judge ruled the state Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities has the authority to hear discrimination complaints from students in public schools.

The decision, handed down by New Britain Superior Court Judge Carl J. Schuman last month, allows the CHRO to proceed with a case against the Cheshire Board of Education, after a former high school student complained of racial discrimination at Cheshire High School.
