A federal judge in Newark has denied a motion to find the Republican National Committee in contempt of court for cooperating with Donald Trump’s election day poll-monitoring plans.

The Democratic National Committee sought a finding of contempt and imposition of sanctions against the Republicans for violation of a consent order dating to 1982 that restricts the GOP from engaging in certain ballot security measures. But U.S. District Judge John Michael Vazquez denied the motion, finding that the Democrats presented insufficient evidence to show either that the Trump campaign is an agent of the RNC or that the two were acting in concert in a manner that would violate the decree.
