A lawsuit filed against a gun maker by the families of victims in the Newtown school shooting has drawn national attention, in part because a federal law exempting firearms manufacturers from liability for most wrongful acts committed with their products has blocked similar actions elsewhere.

But those looking for a potential ground-breaking outcome in the case will have to be patient. State Superior Court Judge Barbara Bellis has scheduled the trial to begin in two years, on April 3, 2018.
