A Rocky Hill-based construction company has agreed to pay $580,000 to settle allegations that it overbilled the federal government on a bridge reconstruction project in Niantic.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Connecticut, Amtrak awarded a contract to Washington Group International (WGI) in 2007 to provide construction management services related to the replacement of a Niantic River rail bridge used by Amtrak passenger trains. The following year, WGI was acquired by URS Corporation AES (URS), which assumed responsibility for the contract. URS is headquartered in Rocky Hill.
