Ending a siting tussle that has dragged on seemingly forever, state Department of Public Works Commissioner James T. Fleming last week announced the selection of a downtown Torrington parcel for a new Litchfield County Courthouse.

The site of the former Timken Corp., at 59 Field St., was one of three considered by a panel of officials from the DPW and the Judicial Branch, after legislators agreed in 2004 to relocate most court operations to Torrington while maintaining the historic but obsolete courthouse on the Litchfield green for less intensive judicial matters.
