Although law enforcement authorities have refused to bring criminal charges against a well-known New London judicial marshal accused of rape, a Superior Court judge has found probable cause that the alleged victim will win her civil suit against the marshal for sexual assault.

By recently slapping a prejudgment remedy on the marshal, Gilberto Torres Gonzalez – which freezes $100,000 of the New London resident’s assets – Middletown Superior Court Judge Robert F. McWeeny indicated that a preliminary review of the evidence against Torres showed a reasonable basis to believe the plaintiff will be able to prove she was raped by Torres in September 2004.
