As a young Army airman in 1943, Joseph Torrisi came home on leave to Long Branch, N.J. While there, he discovered a beautiful beachfront cottage at 78 Ocean Terrace and, before returning to duty, proposed to his father that they buy it for the family.

Tragically, Joseph never saw Long Branch again, perishing in fierce combat over France. His stricken father bought the little house as a tribute to his son’s heroism and his dream for the family. More than 60 years later, Joseph’s kid sister, Rose LaRosa – now an 81-year-old widow – still lives in the home her big brother fell in love with.
