While the U.S. Supreme Court has stated that Title VII is not a "general civility code" for the American workplace, several states, including Connecticut, may attempt to encourage civility through a new cause of action aimed at reducing bullying at work.

Connecticut SB 60, An Act Concerning Bullying in the Workplace, was introduced in this session of the General Assembly and withdrawn with the understanding that it will be reintroduced next year as an act promoting a "Healthy Workplace." The bullying bill would create a new cause of action against an employer or co-worker for workplace bullying.
