It’s hard not to be moved by the trial of John Doe No. 2 against St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center.

In many ways, it is a struggle between big people and little people. Six ordinary citizens, the jury, are poised to have an important say. At issue are the duties that strong, authoritative adults owe those in their care who are not so strong-the sick, the young and the trusting.
