Three weeks ago, at a backyard graduation dinner at the home of Berkeley Law School Dean Erwin Chemerinsky and his wife, one of the 60 law students in attendance stood up, pulled out a microphone, and launched into a pro-Palestinian speech advocating divestment from Israel and other related demands.

In video footage of the incident, Chemerinsky can be seen yelling, “Please leave our house! You are guests in our house!” Chemerinsky’s wife and fellow Berkeley law professor Catherine Fisk can be seen trying to grab the mic, putting her arm around the student and pulling her away, saying: “Leave! This is not your house; this is my house.” Meanwhile, the student—a leader of Law Students for Justice in Palestine—insists that she is exercising her right to free speech at a university gathering, and defiantly tells Fisk to call the police.
