Steve Bannon has hired a lawyer who represented former President Donald Trump during his second impeachment trial and a Silverman Thompson partner to defend against contempt of Congress charges.

Bannon was indicted Friday after defying a subpoena from the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. Bannon and his defense team made their initial appearance Monday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Robin Meriweather. Bannon agreed to weekly check-ins with pretrial services as part of his conditions of release, and had already turned in his passport. The arraignment was delayed until he appears before U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols on Thursday, a proceeding that Bannon’s defense team said they’d prefer to be held virtually.
