Upward of 12,000 former U.S. Air Force service members who received a less-than-honorable discharge due to their mental health or sexual trauma could be part of a class action lawsuit filed Monday in the U.S. District Court District of Connecticut in Hartford.

The 47-page lawsuit—which alleges veterans “are forever stigmatized” due to their discharge status of less-than-honorable—alleges it is women and minorities “who disproportionately experience this punishment.” In fact, the two lead plaintiffs are a Black Connecticut woman referred to as Jane Doe in the lawsuit and Martin Johnson, a Black New Bedford, Massachusetts, resident.
