A growing dispute over the rightful ownership of homes lived in by Palestinians in East Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, and widening tensions at Al Aqsa Mosque in The Old City, have given way to full-blown conflict these past two weeks, leaving lawyers in the region housebound, unable to work, and even fearing for their families.
Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, fired thousands of rockets into Israel, especially Tel Aviv, on Monday, in reaction to Israeli plans for a Jerusalem Day march, commemorating the take-over of the entire city after the 1967 war, although some people said Israeli police banned the rally from taking place.
