During the past several years division has infected our republic. These divisions are often caused and driven by powerful influences, both foreign and domestic, and false claims and insidious actions designed to frustrate dialogue and a meaningful pursuit of truth. Indeed, some people seem intent on creating exactly those types of divisions.

Many forces contribute to this dangerous departure from the rule of law. The present national administration, a political entity that seems to thrive on a narcissistic demand for constant adulation, whether deserved or not and whatever the cost to society at large, is one source of division in the country. Destroying private property and committing acts of random violence is another. Armed “militia men” swaggering around the Michigan state capital building are yet one more.
